5 Expert Home Extension Tips

We became a Chartered Building Company because of our exceptional delivery of extension projects over the past decade. We have delivered over 150 stunning extensions across London and the surrounding areas and love sharing our experience. We again took a look at ways we can provide a better service and decided to share our 5 expert home extension tips.

Below are our best 5 expert home extension tips.

Survey – In order to best understand and secure a projects budget we recommend carrying out drainage and existing structure surveys. A building contractor will likely help by exposing some existing structure by creating openings and trial pits. Surveying the openings and trial pits will allow an engineer to design the structure with much greater accuracy.

Glazing – Most extensions are kitchen extensions that lead to a garden and therefore natural light is very important. Picking a high quality glazing product is crucial for ensuring that you maximise light and quality throughout the freshly extended space.

Underfloor Heating – An extension is an ideal opportunity to add some underfloor heating. Underfloor heating is becoming more prevalent since it is considered a more luxury way to heat a property but mostly because underfloor heating is far more compatible with Air Source Heat Pumps, largely considered the future of eco heating.

Parapet Where Possible – A parapet wall is an ideal way to reduce the view of the roof and drainage systems from the back garden. The roof will be subject to weathering, moss and leaves and can be nicely concealed with a parapet wall. A parapet wall also removes the need for fascia boards and visible gutters.

Utility Room – A utility room is the ideal way to divide your property into zones of functionality, practicality and design orientated rooms. Nobody likes to hear the washing machine whilst they sit at the dining table and so isolating washing services is a great way to maximise enjoyment of the spaces.
