This is not always a possibility as often the space directly above is a fully finished bathroom and the entire space would require significant work, but this should be considered in most cases.

Planning permission is commonly approved for a side return and there are guidelines in place to make the architectural design and planning process a little simpler. Key considerations for any architect looking to obtain planning approval are the boundary height for the new construction, roof type and extension depth as it relates to natural light impact on neighbouring properties.
